Welcome to My Outdoor Adventures Blog!!

Keeping the blog on the bicycle trip last summer was kind of fun, so I've decided to start up again with the blogging as I do some canoeing and other things this summer.  Here's a link to last summer's blog:

André's Bicycle Adventure

I think the new "thing" for me this summer is going to be canoeing!!--I've been thinking about it ever since I bought my house up in Portage, WI, because it just seems like the thing that is most appropriate for this exact geographic location, with so many great lakes and rivers all around, and indeed the very name of the town!  But I'm also looking forward to some hiking and bicycling for sure because there is plenty of that around here.

Bob S. gave me an awesome deal on a fabulous canoe--a 14-foot We-No-Nah Kevlar "Fisherman".  This canoe is super-light due to being made of Kevlar and is very easy for one person to carry around and lift up onto the car etc.  It is a two-person canoe, but it also handles great with one person.  It is a little bit extra-wide and quite flat-bottomed which makes it not the best for speedy long distances but perfect for tooling around in the little waterways through the wetlands!

Sister Donna on the maiden voyage of the new canoe!--at Lake Columbia, a power plant cooling pond (hey, it was the closest place to try it out for the first time!)

Enjoying the ride at Lake Columbia!

Solo paddle this morning....  The scenery along the Fox River was pretty!

After a couple of hours of paddling upstream, I could relax while floating downriver on the Fox River towards my put-in spot at Governor Bend County Park.  (At least until a strong headwind came up and I had to paddle again!)
